Unit 1-Printmaking

What methods can we use in order to repeat and experiment with one image? In this unit we will be experimenting with the media of printmaking using two techniques, stenciling and stamping, in order to duplicate and work on variations of one image.

Review of positive and negative shapes. When we make images and prints we are manipulating positive and negative shapes. In printmaking this is extremely important as we must keep in mind which areas will actually print. See handout

We will be making stencil prints of our self-portraits. The process is similar to that of silkscreening. First, using photographs we divide our face into positive and negative shapes. This will serve as a sketch for our stencil.
